In this, his first of two autobiographies, Chris Lord gives his readers a behind-the-scenes insight into what it’s like to constantly ideate, innovate, develop, patent, and sell. Read how a chance, near-monosyllabic invitation at a Chinese trade fair to ‘sit, open, suck’ led to business brilliance, and how big successes seemed to be pitted against the odds at almost every turn. Covering the four years of CN Creative and his partnership with co-entrepreneur and best friend David Newns, these true-life stories are peopled with unforgettable and often hilarious characters, where the recollected dialogue rivals the very best of recent ‘mockumentary’ scripts. Even British American Tobacco doesn’t escape.
However, like tobacco, this book comes with a health warning. Behind the success and the laughter, behind even the obstacles and frustration, Chris has been careful to show how business success has only been achieved at a personal cost to his physical and mental health. It is the humour and honesty, sometimes painful, that marks this out from any other business book you might have read.
